Dr. Matthew R. Lazarus is the owner and optometrist at Lazarus Eye Care, LLC. He founded the company in July 2023 and opened the office in February 2024. Prior to opening Lazarus Eye Care, he worked alongside an ophthalmologist for over 5 years. During his time at that office, he diagnosed, treated, and managed a multitude of eye and systemic diseases including diabetes and other vascular diseases, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, bacterial and viral infections, and numerous inflammatory diseases such as uveitis. In addition, he co-managed surgeries including cataract surgery, refractive surgery, retinal laser surgery, and eyelid surgery. He was also a sub-investigator in many FDA research trials the office participated in.
Dr. Lazarus grew up in Wildwood, MO and is a graduate of Eureka High School. He completed his undergraduate education in biology at the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2014. He then attended the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry where he graduated with honors in May of 2018. During his last year of school, Dr. Lazarus completed ocular disease rotations at the Kansas City VA hospital and Envision Eye Specialists in St. Louis. He also completed pediatric and contact lens rotations at The UMSL University Eye Center and The Koetting Associates, a local contact lens specialty practice.
Dr. Lazarus has been married to his beautiful wife, Casey, since the Fall of 2018. They both enjoy spending time with their golden retriever, Gus, who you may see in the office as well. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing and spending time with family and friends. He is a sports enthusiast and loves the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues, and Green Bay Packers.
